Saints Reportedly Outbid Eagles and Titans in $31 Million Sweepstakes
The New Orleans Saints have been active in the opening days of the NFL’s legal tampering period, making several key moves as the new league year approaches.
In addition to retaining some of their own free agents, such as Chase Young and Juwan Johnson, the Saints also made a significant move by reportedly signing former Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans safety Justin Reid to a three-year, $31.5 million contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Reid, who spent the past three seasons with the Chiefs and won two Super Bowl titles, will now join the Saints. However, New Orleans wasn’t the only team interested in his services. They reportedly outbid both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tennessee Titans, with the competition coming down to the wire, as noted by Underdog/Bleacher Report’s James Palmer.
“Reid had several teams vying for him,” Palmer said. “It came down to the wire between the Titans, Eagles, and Saints, with New Orleans ultimately winning out.”
With Reid reportedly on his way and Tyrann Mathieu staying with the team, the Saints’ safety position looks solid heading into the new season. It’s been a busy few days for New Orleans, and they seem to be in a much stronger position than they were when free agency began.
