Texas A&M Stand Out DB Lands NFL Top 30 Visit
Texas A&M Standout DB Receives Top 30 NFL Visit
Reports indicate that one Texas A&M Aggies player has earned a top 30 visit for the NFL Draft.
While much of Texas A&M’s draft prospects have focused on Shemar Stewart, Shemar Turner, and Nic Scourton recently, there is another Aggie gaining attention: defensive back BJ Mayes.
NFL insider Aaron Wilson shared that Mayes has secured a top 30 visit with the Indianapolis Colts. “Texas A&M defensive back B.J. Mayes has a top 30 visit with the Colts, per a league source,” Wilson posted on X. “The Heights graduate ranked fourth in the SEC and first on his team with four interceptions last season.”
A native of Houston, Mayes started his career at Incarnate Word in San Antonio before transferring to the Aggies in January 2024. He wrapped up his college career with seven interceptions.
In the 2024 season, Mayes recorded 29 total tackles (19 solo), five pass breakups, and four interceptions. He had an interception in the 35-31 loss to USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, another against Auburn, and two in the win over LSU.
During his time at UIW and UAB in 2022 and 2023, Mayes totaled 82 tackles (61 solo), 21 pass breakups, and three interceptions.
Mayes is now among several Aggies, including cornerback Jaydon Hill, receiver Moose Muhammad III, tight end Tre Watson, and defensive linemen Shemar Turner, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Stewart, all hoping to hear their names called during next month’s NFL Draft.
