Bill Self Lauds Kansas’ Surprising Star in Tough Win Over UCF
AJ Storr may have had his most memorable moment as a Kansas Jayhawk in the team’s win over UCF. Though it wasn’t a game for the record books, Kansas secured a crucial 98-94 overtime victory to kick off their Big 12 Tournament run on Wednesday night, advancing to face Arizona on Thursday.
The Jayhawks brought in guard AJ Storr from Wisconsin via the transfer portal with high expectations for his impact. While Storr’s 2024-25 season has had its ups and downs, he delivered what could be considered his best performance in a Kansas uniform during this win.
After the game, Kansas head coach Bill Self had high praise for Storr following his 19-point performance.

“He (Storr) was huge for us tonight, and we don’t win the game without him,” Self said.
Zeke Mayo also acknowledged Storr’s importance, saying, “He played fantastic, and this was a big game for him. Definitely a coming-out party, and we needed every point.”
Although Storr fouled out after 27 minutes off the bench, his unexpected star performance was crucial for Kansas’ advancement. Without his contribution, the Jayhawks wouldn’t be preparing to face Arizona on Thursday.
Kansas will meet third-seeded Arizona in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals at 8:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, with the game airing on ESPN.
