The Utah Utes have faced their fair share of struggles in recent years. After securing back-to-back Pac-12 championships in 2021 and 2022, the team has posted a combined 13-12 record over the last two seasons. A mix of injuries, outdated schemes, and offensive struggles have contributed to their challenges. However, with a new quarterback in Devon Dampier and a fresh play-caller in Jason Beck heading into 2025, the offensive woes are expected to improve.
Unfortunately, the Utes will be without star wide receiver Dorian Singer next season. While there was optimism that he could gain an extra year of eligibility, it has been confirmed that he will not be returning to Salt Lake City. According to KSL’s Steve Bartle, neither of Singer’s attempts to secure eligibility were successful. The 2022 All-Pac-12 selection had filed for a waiver, and the program was also hopeful that the NCAA would approve a fifth year, but neither option worked out.
As a result, Singer is now preparing for the next level and is listed as a participant in this month’s Big 12 Pro Day. In his lone season with the Utes, he recorded 53 receptions for 702 yards and one touchdown.
While Utah had hoped Singer would return, the coaching staff had already been proactive in strengthening the receiving corps through the NCAA Transfer Portal. The team has added Creed Whittemore (Mississippi State), Ryan Davis (New Mexico), Otto Tia (Utah State), and Justin Stevenson (Wyoming). With Singer’s departure now official, the Utes may look to make further additions when the spring transfer window opens.
