Mason Rudolph will be back in Pittsburgh next season.
A former Cowboy is reuniting with the team that originally drafted him.
On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Mason Rudolph has agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Rudolph explored other possibilities, including remaining with the Tennessee Titans, he ultimately decided to return to his first NFL team.
Last season marked Rudolph’s first and only year with the Titans. He appeared in eight games for a struggling 3-14 Tennessee squad, starting five of them. Despite finishing with a 1-4 record as a starter, he delivered some solid performances.
In 2024, Rudolph threw for 1,530 yards while completing 64% of his passes. He totaled nine touchdowns and nine interceptions, recording at least 200 passing yards in five games. His best outing came in October against the Detroit Lions, where he posted a season-high 266 yards.
Before joining Tennessee, Rudolph spent the first six years of his professional career in Pittsburgh. During that time, he frequently alternated between starting and backup roles due to injuries and inconsistent play within the Steelers’ quarterback room.
Rudolph first took over as a starter in 2019, his second season, after Pittsburgh’s primary quarterback suffered an injury. That year, he played in 10 games and started eight, leading the Steelers to a 5-3 record in those starts.
He completed 176 of 283 pass attempts for 1,765 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His 13 touchdown passes that season remain a career high, while his +4 touchdown-to-interception ratio is still his best.
Over the following four seasons, Rudolph played in 11 more games, making five additional starts. In 2023, he stepped in as the Steelers’ starter for the final three regular-season games, guiding them to three straight wins and a playoff berth.
Rudolph made his first career playoff start that season, facing the Buffalo Bills. Despite a 14-point defeat, he put up a respectable performance, throwing for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
As Rudolph prepares for another shot in Pittsburgh, this return could provide the opportunity he needs to establish himself in the league.
