Steelers Lose OG to Commanders
The Washington Commanders are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard Nate Herbig to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Herbig joined the Steelers in 2023 and served as the team’s swing guard during his first season. Heading into the 2024 training camp, he was initially positioned as the starting center, with rookie second-round pick Zach Frazier behind him. Unfortunately, Herbig suffered a shoulder injury early in camp, which placed him on Injured Reserve for the entire season.
Now, at 26 years old, Herbig is heading to Washington. The former New York Jet, Philadelphia Eagle, and Pittsburgh Steeler is expected to compete for a starting guard role, aiming to protect quarterback Jayden Daniels in his second season.
As for the Steelers, they have shown no signs of adding to their offensive line. Mason McCormick is likely to start at guard alongside Frazier, with Troy Fautanu at right tackle. Broderick Jones and Isaac Seumalo are slated to play on the left side.
The Steelers’ backups include Spencer Anderson and Ryan McCollum, both versatile enough to play center or guard. While they are expected to add another piece, it’s uncertain whether it will be for the interior or exterior of the line, as Anderson is capable of playing both positions.
