Leon Draisaitl delivered another clutch performance for the Edmonton Oilers, netting both goals in a 2-1 overtime win against the New York Islanders. His effort not only ended Edmonton’s two-game skid but also pushed him past the 100-point mark for the season, making him the second player to reach the milestone after Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon.

Draisaitl got the Oilers on the board in the second period with his 48th goal of the season, extending his point streak to 17 games. He then sealed the victory in overtime, capitalizing on a setup from Connor McDavid and goaltender Calvin Pickard.

“It’s a nice individual milestone,” Draisaitl said. “But the two points are much better than any other personal records.”

The Oilers dominated the overtime period, keeping the Islanders trapped in their own zone until Leon Draisaitl netted his 49th goal of the season to secure the win. Head coach Kris Knoblauch praised Draisaitl’s ability to take over games, describing him as a “dominant” force all season.

“I’ve seen Leon take control of his game,” Knoblauch said. “He’s always been a great player, one of the best forwards on the ice every night. That’s what makes him a star.”

With 14 goals and 26 points in his last 17 games, Draisaitl (49 goals, 51 assists) has been Edmonton’s most consistent offensive threat, outpacing even Connor McDavid, who sits at 85 points. Now just one goal shy of his fourth 50-goal season, Draisaitl leads the league in scoring by a comfortable 13-goal margin over second-place William Nylander, putting him in prime position for the Rocket Richard Trophy.

The Oilers, now 38-24-4 with 80 points through 66 games, will look to build on this victory as they continue their playoff push.
