Darian DeVries Responds After NCAA Tournament Snub
West Virginia University head coach Darian DeVries expressed his disappointment after the Mountaineers were left out of the NCAA Tournament on Selection Sunday.
Despite securing a 19th win in the regular season finale against UCF, many believed West Virginia had done enough to earn a spot in the tournament. The team finished 6-10 in quad one games, 4-3 in quad two, and a perfect 9-0 in quad three and four matchups, placing 51st in the Net Rankings.
In a statement released Sunday night, DeVries shared his thoughts on the snub:
“Obviously, we are extremely shocked, saddened, and disappointed not to be selected for the NCAA Tournament. We strongly believe our resume was worthy of an NCAA Tournament bid. I am incredibly proud of this team and all they accomplished. They gave their all this season, working tirelessly to make the tournament, and I believe they did that.”
At this time, West Virginia has not confirmed if they will participate in the NIT, though an invitation is expected, likely as the overall No. 1 seed.
