The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed a familiar face to their cornerback group, continuing their active offseason at the position.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, James Pierre is returning to the Steelers on a one-year deal.

Last season, Pierre started two games and played in 15 total contests, recording 23 tackles, three pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and an interception.

The 28-year-old played college football at Florida Atlantic, where he appeared in 39 games over three seasons. During his time there, he accumulated 120 tackles, 15 passes defended, and three interceptions.

Pierre joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2020. As a rookie, he played all 16 games, making 10 tackles. In 2021, he started four of 17 games, recording 47 tackles, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

After appearing in 33 games over the 2022 and 2023 seasons for the Steelers and accumulating 37 tackles, Pierre signed with the Washington Commanders in March 2024. However, he was released during final roster cuts in August, before rejoining the Steelers’ practice squad in September and later being promoted to the active roster.
