Bengals Sign Lucas Patrick to One-Year Deal for Offensive Line Depth
The Cincinnati Bengals have addressed their need for offensive line improvements by signing veteran guard Lucas Patrick to a one-year, $2.1 million contract, as announced on Friday.
Patrick, 31, started 10 games for the New Orleans Saints last season and has experience playing both guard and center. After visiting the Bengals on Thursday night, he and the team quickly reached an agreement.
Having spent the first five years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, Patrick also played two seasons with the Chicago Bears before joining the Saints last year.
Patrick is expected to provide valuable depth to a Bengals offensive line that needed reinforcements. While it remains uncertain whether he’ll compete for a starting role, his versatility at both guard positions and center gives him a chance to contribute significantly.
According to Pro Football Focus, Patrick posted a 64.6 overall grade in 2023, his second-highest career mark. Over the past two seasons, he has not allowed a sack in 893 pass-blocking snaps and surrendered just three quarterback hits.
It’s also worth noting that Patrick previously played in Green Bay with current Bengals defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery. After going undrafted in 2016, Patrick signed with the Packers from Duke.
This signing adds to the Bengals’ offseason moves, which also included bringing in former Packers players T.J. Slaton and Oren Burks. Patrick now joins a revamped offensive line that includes Ted Karras, Orlando Brown Jr., Amarius Mims, Cody Ford, and Cordell Volson.
