Browns QB Signs with Giants on $16 Million Deal

A popular Cleveland Browns quarterback from 2024 is making his way to the New York Giants. The Giants have secured a new veteran quarterback.

According to Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports, free-agent QB Jameis Winston from the Cleveland Browns is set to join the Giants on a two-year deal that could be worth up to $16 million.

Like Cleveland, the Giants have been actively searching for a veteran quarterback this offseason. Both teams even met with Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson in person last week.

It now seems that New York has chosen Winston, unless they continue to explore other veteran quarterback options. The situation surrounding Aaron Rodgers could also impact this, as he had a long visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. If Rodgers moves elsewhere, the Browns may face less competition for Wilson.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network noted that this move doesn’t rule out the Giants’ pursuit of other veteran quarterbacks like Rodgers or Wilson.

It’s no surprise that the Browns let Winston move on. Since the end of the season, the team has emphasized “decision-making” as a key quality they want in a quarterback. Unfortunately for Winston, his 2024 season was marked by inconsistency. After stepping in for an injured Deshaun Watson in Week 8, Winston threw 12 interceptions alongside 13 touchdowns.

His most memorable moment came during a Week 13 Monday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos, where he passed for nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns but also threw three interceptions, including two pick-sixes that ultimately cost the Browns the game.
