Former Vikings QB Kellen Mond Named Starter for UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas

Kellen Mond, the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback, has been named the starting quarterback for the San Antonio Brahmas in the United Football League (UFL) this season. Mond, who spent just one season with the Vikings, saw limited action in the NFL.

The Vikings selected Mond with the 66th overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, a decision that reportedly upset then-head coach Mike Zimmer, who walked out of the room when general manager Rick Spielman made the pick. Mond only appeared in one game for the Vikings, a loss to the Green Bay Packers that knocked them out of playoff contention, where he completed 2-of-3 passes for five yards. Zimmer, when asked about playing Mond in the final game, responded, “Not particularly,” adding, “I see him every day.” Both Zimmer and Mond were no longer with the team after that season.

After being waived by the Vikings, Mond had brief stints with the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, and New Orleans Saints over the past three years, but he was unable to secure a permanent spot. In October, he signed with the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas.

This new opportunity in the UFL could provide Mond with a chance to showcase his skills and potentially earn another shot in the NFL in 2025.
