COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day confirmed that the Buckeyes’ national championship-winning football team will visit the White House on April 14.
The visit will take place after the team concludes its spring football practices.
“It’s an honor to be invited,” Day said. “Growing up, I remember watching national championship teams go to the White House and thinking, ‘Man, what an honor that would be.’ This is part of our team’s celebration, and I’m looking forward to getting everything planned.”
The Buckeyes secured their first national title since 2014 by defeating Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff championship game in Atlanta.
Ohio State will be the second championship team to visit the White House since President Donald Trump returned to office in January. The Stanley Cup-winning Florida Panthers made their visit on Feb. 3 before facing the Washington Capitals.
Vice President JD Vance is an Ohio State alumnus.
Trump has attended numerous sporting events since taking office, including the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia for the second time in three years. He also became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans and made his second appearance at the Daytona 500 since 2020.
The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to visit the White House on April 28.
Day had initially planned for April 12 to serve as a spring showcase rather than a traditional spring game but later reconsidered when asked about the format.
“I just think we need to leave some flexibility in case we deal with injuries,” Day explained. “It’s important that we start the season strong, and the first step is playing the spring game. If we’re short on linemen, we’ll have to adjust accordingly.”
