Jets Considering 6-Year NFL Veteran for Potential Kicker Competition
What other moves might the Jets make this offseason?
The New York Jets likely didn’t get the kicker production they were expecting this past season. Greg Zuerlein, who dealt with knee injuries, missed most of the year and played in only eight games. During those games, he converted just 60% of his field goal attempts, finishing 9-for-15. However, he did go 13-for-14 on extra points.
Zuerlein’s field goal percentage was the lowest of his 13-year NFL career, which has included stints with the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and Jets. In 2023, he finished with a solid 35-of-38 field goal record for the Jets, but 2024 wasn’t as successful for him.
Zuerlein signed a two-year, $8.4 million contract and is under contract for the 2025 season. Despite this, the Jets are reportedly considering bringing in some competition for the kicker spot. On Monday, the team worked out six-year NFL veteran Michael Badgley, according to KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson.
Wilson shared, “Jets worked out kicker Michael Badgley today.”
Badgley has played in 64 NFL games across his six-year career with the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions. Last season, he appeared in just four games with the Lions, making all four of his field goals and 13 of his 15 extra points.
Though no deal has been reached yet, it’s notable that the Jets are exploring other kicker options.
