According to Buffaloes beat reporter Brian Howell, Colorado’s board of regents has approved a new five-year, $54 million contract for head coach Deion Sanders, solidifying his status as one of the highest-paid coaches in college football.

Annual Salary Breakdown:

  • 2025: $10 million

  • 2026: $10 million

  • 2027: $11 million

  • 2028: $11 million

  • 2029: $12 million

On Friday morning, the board unanimously approved the extension.

“Coach Prime has revolutionized college football and, in the process, restored CU football to its rightful place as a national powerhouse,” Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a press release. “This contract not only rewards his remarkable achievements in transforming our program both on and off the field, but it also ensures he remains in Boulder to compete for conference and national championships in the years ahead.”

Under the new deal, Sanders—already the highest-paid coach in Colorado history—will earn a base salary of $10 million in 2025 and 2026, $11 million in 2027 and 2028, and $12 million in 2029. His total earnings could increase further through performance-based incentives.

This extension is a major commitment to one of the most recognizable coaches in college football. Colorado was just 1-11 in 2022, the year before Sanders took over. In 2023, they improved to 4-8, and by 2024, they made a significant leap to 9-4, earning a spot in the Alamo Bowl. With Sanders at the helm, Colorado is confident that the program’s future is brighter than ever.
