Broncos Sign Colts QB Sam Ehlinger to One-Year Deal

The Indianapolis Colts are losing one of their quarterbacks from last season as Sam Ehlinger heads to the Denver Broncos.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, Ehlinger has agreed to a one-year contract with the Broncos.

Ehlinger, who was drafted by the Colts in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft at 218th overall, has spent the past three seasons with Indianapolis. During that time, he made three starts, all in the 2022 season, and recorded 573 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, completing 63.4% of his passes.

Now, Ehlinger will join the Broncos, where he will back up quarterback Bo Nix in a Sean Payton-led offense. He’ll also be part of a quarterback room that includes veteran Jarrett Stidham. It’s a solid opportunity for the Texas product.

Ehlinger’s departure leaves the Colts with one less quarterback heading into the 2025 season, raising the question of whether they’ll carry a third signal caller on the roster. Currently, Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are the clear top two options, but given that the Colts used a three-quarterback setup last year, they may consider doing the same for the upcoming season. How this will play out remains to be seen.

Regardless, Ehlinger’s move marks another notable shift in the Colts’ quarterback room as they prepare for the 2025 season.
