Georgia’s De’Shayne Montgomery Joins the Transfer Portal

De’Shayne Montgomery of Georgia basketball has entered the transfer portal. The offseason for the Bulldogs officially began last week after their early exit from the NCAA tournament. On Thursday, Silas Demary Jr. became the first Georgia player to announce his transfer, and now Montgomery has followed suit. According to Joe Tipton of ON3, Montgomery has decided to seek a new opportunity.

The 6-5 sophomore averaged 6.5 points per game this season. He joined Georgia last year from Mount Saint Mary’s. Montgomery was a regular part of the rotation for much of the season, but his playing time started to decrease toward the end of the regular season. In the NCAA tournament against Gonzaga, he played only a few minutes and failed to record any stats in games following Georgia’s February matchup with Missouri.

At Mount Saint Mary’s, Montgomery averaged 13.2 points, 2 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. Now, he is looking for his third program in as many years.

Since the conclusion of their season, two Georgia players have entered the transfer portal. In addition to Montgomery, point guard Silas Demary Jr. is exploring both the NBA draft and his transfer options. Several SEC schools have shown interest in Demary Jr.

Under head coach Mike White, Georgia made the NCAA tournament in 2024 and recorded their first 20-win season since 2015.
