Kentucky Targeting One of the Top Three-Point Shooters in the Transfer Portal

Mark Pope is actively seeking top-tier talent in the transfer portal, and one of his main targets is Abdi Bashir Jr. from Monmouth, who averaged 20.1 points per game this season.

Bashir Jr. led all of college basketball in three-pointers made, hitting 127 shots this year. He also posted an impressive 38.3% shooting from beyond the arc, demonstrating excellent efficiency despite the high volume of attempts.

Standing 6’7″ and weighing 160 pounds, the guard also contributed 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game along with his scoring.

According to Joe Tipton of On3, Kentucky is arranging a Zoom meeting with Bashir Jr., who is also being pursued by Kansas, Alabama, and Arkansas.

As one of the best shooters in college basketball, Bashir Jr. could be a perfect fit for Coach Pope’s system, which emphasizes three-point shooting. Pope can point to Koby Brea, another elite shooter in Kentucky’s offense, as an example of how his program can develop top-tier shooters.

Earlier this season, before Monmouth entered conference play, Bashir Jr. scored 20 points against Michigan State and 15 points against Auburn, showing he can compete with elite talent.

With several top programs targeting him, Coach Pope will have to work hard to convince Bashir Jr. that Kentucky is the best fit for his game. However, the fit with Kentucky seems ideal for the sharpshooter, and Coach Pope will need to make that case.
