Texas Longhorns fans are eagerly anticipating the 2025 season, fueled by both the team’s recent near-misses at a championship and a major change at quarterback. While Quinn Ewers was once the face of the program, his status quickly shifted after Texas secured highly touted recruit Arch Manning.
As the nephew of Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch has been a fan favorite since arriving on campus, with Longhorns supporters calling for him to take over the starting role for the past two seasons. Manning spent two years backing up Ewers, patiently waiting for his opportunity, but as head coach Steve Sarkisian recently revealed on the Clean Pocket podcast, other programs aggressively tried to lure him into the transfer portal.
Discussing Manning’s patience and the excitement surrounding his promotion to starting quarterback, Sarkisian also acknowledged the external pressure from other schools.
“I’m excited for him,” Sarkisian said. “He’s been patient. How many schools have tried to recruit him to transfer?”
“I can’t imagine,” Texas legend Colt McCoy responded.
“He’s stayed the course and stayed true to his word, so we’re pumped about him,” Sarkisian added.
With the highest NIL valuation in college sports at $6.5 million, it’s intriguing to consider what kind of offers were made to sway Manning. However, none were enough to pull him away from Austin, and now the Longhorns have a legitimate shot at their first national title since 2005.
Manning and Texas will open the 2025 season with a blockbuster matchup, traveling to Columbus to face Ohio State in a showdown between two college football powerhouses.
