NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Vanderbilt has appointed Amanda Green as its associate general counsel, leveraging her NBA experience, particularly with the Oklahoma City Thunder, to support the Commodores’ athletic program.
“Amanda Green exemplifies our unwavering commitment to addressing the current challenges and advancing college athletics,” said athletic director Candice Lee in a statement on Tuesday. “She has played a key role in creating championship environments, both on the court and in the boardroom, and recognizes how successful organizations collaborate to maximize their potential.”
Vanderbilt aims to utilize Green’s nearly two decades of experience in the NBA, with the Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs, to navigate the evolving landscape of name, image, and likeness issues, including negotiating agreements and advising on partnerships. Green will also provide strategic and operational support to Vanderbilt athletics. She will report to Ruby Z. Shellaway, Vanderbilt’s vice chancellor and general counsel, and will collaborate closely with Lee and the athletics department.
“I have witnessed how sports can unite communities and inspire individuals, and I look forward to helping Vanderbilt address the critical legal challenges facing collegiate athletics today,” Green stated.
Green began her career as a manager for the men’s basketball team while attending Duke University. She earned her law degree from Georgetown in 2010 and interned with the San Antonio Spurs during their 2006-07 championship season. Green has worked on intellectual property issues at the NBA and as an associate at Proskauer Rose LLP, where she handled finance, mergers, and acquisitions in various sectors, including sports, banking, retail, and manufacturing.
Additionally, Green spent over 10 years with the Thunder, serving more than four years as vice president of team counsel and strategic alignment.
