Texas A&M Forward Solomon Washington Enters Transfer Portal
The Texas A&M Aggies are continuing to undergo significant changes as another key player enters the transfer portal. According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, forward Solomon Washington, who has spent three seasons with the Aggies, is leaving the program. The New Orleans native has entered the portal with a “do not contact” label, suggesting that his next destination may already be decided. Washington started 23 of 32 games this past season, averaging 4.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.
This move follows the departure of head coach Buzz Williams, who left to take the head coaching job at Maryland. Washington joins several other Aggies players in the portal, including guard Jaelyn Lee, starting big man Pharrel Payne, and forward Rob Dockery. Additionally, Texas A&M has seen the departure of several players who are out of eligibility, including Wade Taylor IV, Manny Obaseki, Henry Coleman III, Andersson Garcia, Hayden Hefner, Zhuric Phelps, and CJ Wilcher.
Washington had a standout performance earlier this season, scoring a season-high 17 points with five rebounds and two steals in a victory over Georgia on February 11. He described his game as being fueled by interactions with the opposing bench, and his performance helped lead the Aggies to a dominant defensive showing in the second half.
Now, Washington will look to bring his physicality and toughness to a new Power-5 conference team as he continues his college career.
