Louisville Guard Jayda Curry Announces Entry into WNBA Draft
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Jayda Curry, a guard for Louisville women’s basketball, has officially declared for the 2025 WNBA Draft, as announced on her social media Wednesday.
Although Curry is a senior, she had previously considered the possibility of returning for a fifth year before making her decision to enter the draft. “Thank you to the city of Louisville for taking me in with open arms,” Curry shared in an Instagram post. “Words can’t describe how blessed I am to have been a part of this program, this community, and this fanbase. I’m filled with so much love, humility, and thanks as I move on to the next chapter of my life, and that’s truly all I could ask for.”
The 5-foot-6 guard began her collegiate career at Cal for two seasons before transferring to Louisville for her final two years. She earned First-Team All-ACC honors this past season. During her senior year, Curry played in 27 games, starting 19, and was the Cardinals’ second-leading scorer with 14.4 points per game, alongside 3.3 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. In Louisville’s NCAA Tournament second-round matchup against TCU, Curry set a career-high with 41 points, breaking the program record for most points in an NCAA Tournament game, surpassing Angel McCoughtry’s 35 points from 2008. Curry’s 41 points tied for the fourth-most in any game by a Cardinal.
Her final season at Louisville marked a strong rebound after a challenging 2023-24 campaign, her first year with the Cardinals, where she averaged career-lows of 9.2 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 34 games.
A native of Corona, California, Curry’s college career began with a standout freshman season at Cal, where she was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. That season, she led the conference in scoring with 18.6 points per game and became the first freshman in Pac-12 history to do so. As a sophomore, Curry led the Golden Bears again with 15.5 points per game, earning First-Team All-Pac-12 honors.
Under head coach Jeff Walz, Louisville had a rocky start to the season at 6-5 but went on to win 14 of their next 15 games, ultimately finishing with a 22-11 record. The Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament, defeating Nebraska before falling to TCU in the second round.
