Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young made significant progress toward the end of the 2024 season, despite facing a tough start. After being benched earlier in the year due to struggles, Young showed impressive maturity in bouncing back when given another opportunity.
Now, the Panthers’ focus should be on surrounding him with more talent to help his continued development. Not only do they need additional support at wide receiver, but adding a dynamic playmaker at tight end could also make a big difference.
Given this, Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports suggested that the Panthers could be a potential trade partner for Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews.
“The Panthers have two solid tight ends in Ja’Tavion Sanders and Tommy Tremble,” Palacios wrote. “However, the wide receiver situation looks concerning once Adam Thielen retires, and Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker have untapped potential. They could use a proven veteran like Andrews if Sanders doesn’t pan out.”
Andrews is entering the final year of his contract, and there has been speculation that the Ravens, who are tight against the salary cap, might trade him to free up cap space. However, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh recently expressed his expectation that Andrews will remain with the team in 2025.
“Mark’s in a good place. He’s working really hard,” Harbaugh said. “I do fully expect him to be playing for us next year. He’s just too good a player.”
While Harbaugh’s comments may reflect his genuine belief, it’s also possible that he’s trying to create leverage to secure a better trade package, as the Ravens wouldn’t get a strong return if it’s clear they intend to trade Andrews.
While Sanders showed potential last season, the jury is still out on his development. Meanwhile, Tremble hasn’t proven to be the kind of difference-maker Carolina needs in the passing game.
Andrews, a three-time Pro Bowler, would immediately elevate the Panthers’ tight end group and overall receiving corps. Despite a slightly down 2024 season, Andrews still recorded 673 yards and 11 touchdowns, proving he’s one of the league’s top receiving tight ends.
At 29, Andrews is still young enough that the Panthers could consider extending him if he fits well with the team. However, Carolina wouldn’t be locked into him long-term if things don’t work out.
If the Ravens do decide to trade Andrews, the Panthers should be among the teams interested in acquiring him.
