The Washington Huskies seem to have found a promising wide receiver in Penn State transfer Omari Evans. During his first practice in Seattle, the senior stood out by making a significant impact in the final team period, finishing with a series of impressive plays, including two touchdowns on the last drive.
Evans first scored against cornerback Elias Johnson, showcasing his impressive speed with a go route that left the redshirt freshman behind. A couple of plays later, Evans capped off the practice by leaping over the 6-foot-2 cornerback on a fade route, outmuscling him to secure the ball on the final play, drawing praise from his head coach.
“We now have a strong group with Omari and Denzel, along with Rashid [Williams], Audric [Harris], [Kevin Green Jr.], and all these young guys. We should be a much better team,” said Jedd Fisch on Tuesday. “Omari brings a lot to the table, with his speed and ability to make catches in traffic. He caught some tough, contested passes today, and I was really excited, especially the way practice ended.”
Even Fisch seems confident that his receiving corps is in a much better position heading into the 2025 season, despite the fact that outside of Evans and Boston, the group has only accumulated 21 catches for 265 yards at the collegiate level. With quarterback Demond Williams Jr. set for his first full season as the starter, Washington prioritized adding the senior following his three seasons at Penn State.
If his performance in his first practice in purple and gold is any indication, Evans could become a key asset in Fisch’s offense. Last spring, Williams demonstrated his ability to line up in various spots, providing Fisch and offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty with plenty of flexibility.
With Evans and Boston on the outside, Williams and Green in the slot, and a solid rotation of running backs behind starter Jonah Coleman, the Huskies have the potential for a strong group of skill players, bolstered by Evans’ experience to help solidify the receiving corps.
