Nashville Predators coach Andrew Brunette is currently away from the team due to family matters, as reported by The Tennessean on Saturday.

Brunette was absent from the Predators’ practice at Centennial Sportsplex that day, with assistant coach Todd Richards overseeing most of the on-ice activities and addressing the media afterward.

No additional details were provided regarding Brunette’s absence. The team indicated that if he is still unavailable for Sunday’s game against Montreal, Richards will step in as head coach.

At 51 years old, Brunette was appointed as the coach of the Predators in May 2023 after the team parted ways with John Hynes, who subsequently took the coaching position with the Minnesota Wild six months later. This hire was Barry Trotz’s first significant decision as the new general manager.

In his inaugural season, Brunette achieved a record of 47-30-5 and was a finalist for the 2024 Jack Adams Award, which honors the NHL’s top coach. However, this season has been challenging for the Predators under Brunette, with a current record of 27-41-8 and only six games remaining in the season.
