What has happened with Football recruiting recently?

As the spring semester comes to a close and summer official visits approach, recruitment activity for Rutgers Football has been thriving.

Last Saturday, the Scarlet Knights secured a commitment from 2026 Safety Sebastian Cruz, who hails from Fleming Island High School in Florida. Standing six feet tall and weighing 178 pounds, Cruz is noted for his impressive closing speed, which allows him to recover quickly if he gets caught out of position—a skill that could be highly beneficial at the college level. He was among the first recruits to join under new Safeties coach Vic Hall.

Cruz was part of a significant unofficial visit weekend at Rutgers, which saw several 2026 recruits in attendance. Among them were Will Valla, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end from Downers Grove, Illinois; four-star offensive lineman Johnny Jones from Berkeley Prep; offensive lineman Tyrell Simpson from Leland, North Carolina; three-star defensive tackle Gabrial Hill from Illinois; and outside linebacker Justin Edwards from Orlando, Florida. Many of these recruits are expected to schedule official visits for late May or early June, if they haven’t done so already.

Rutgers is also in the hunt for additional prospects. According to the Knight Report, the Scarlet Knights have made it into the top six for three-star linebacker Mathieu Kanu, competing with Penn State, North Carolina, Michigan, Kentucky, and Virginia Tech.

Additionally, three-star edge rusher Carter Gooden and three-star interior offensive lineman Jared Smith are showing increasing interest in Rutgers, as reported by 247.

Rutgers is not neglecting the 2027 class either, recently offering scholarships to Carter Blattner, an offensive lineman from Northern Highlands High School, and Recarder Kitchen, a top-20 defensive end recruit from Muskegon, Michigan, who is scheduled to visit Rutgers on April 9th.
