Jets ‘Determined’ to Finalize Two Major Deals
It seems the New York Jets are staying active and focused on strengthening their roster.
The team is fortunate to have two key cornerstones for the future: Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. Gardner is a true No. 1 cornerback with the potential to become the best in the NFL, while Wilson has had an impressive start to his career, achieving three consecutive seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards—a feat never before accomplished by a Jets player. Despite the offseason drama involving Aaron Rodgers, Wilson set a new career high in 2024 with 1,104 yards.
Both players are eligible for contract extensions this offseason, and according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets are highly motivated to get deals done with both of them.
“The organization plans to wait until after the draft to begin exploring possible extensions for Gardner and Wilson,” Cimini noted, citing Darren Mougey. “The Jets are motivated to finalize these deals, but they must make financial sense.”
Team officials have praised both players, with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn calling Gardner “a guy who can be the best in the league.” Glenn also acknowledged that Gardner’s performance last season wasn’t perfect, noting that his tackling needs improvement. Gardner missed 17 percent of his tackle attempts, the fourth-highest rate on the team, according to Next Gen Stats.
While it would be costly to lock in both players on new deals, their talent and potential make them well worth the investment.
