Brewers Hit Hard by Another Injury Setback

The Milwaukee Brewers just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injuries.

Already struggling with a thin starting rotation, the Brewers took another hit on Sunday, announcing that starter Nestor Cortes has been placed on the 15-day Injured List.

Cortes has made two starts this season, giving up eight earned runs over eight innings. All of those runs came in his first outing, where he allowed eight runs in just two innings against the New York Yankees. He bounced back with a solid six-inning scoreless performance against the Cincinnati Reds.

However, the team remains optimistic it won’t be a long-term issue. According to Brewers assistant GM Matt Kleine, Cortes’ injury isn’t expected to keep him out for an extended period. He had been dealing with an elbow issue leading up to his last start and didn’t recover in time to make his next outing, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Curt Hogg.

This is another blow for a Brewers’ rotation already plagued by injuries. Currently, the team is without Cortes, Brandon Woodruff, José Quintana, Tobias Myers, and Aaron Civale. The Brewers now face a difficult challenge in replacing these key players.

At this point, exploring options on the open market or in trade talks might be necessary, as these injuries are stacking up fast.
