Tight relationship’ with staff has Auburn in strong spot for Grayson QB Travis Burgess.
After visiting Auburn for the Tigers’ first scrimmage last Saturday, Grayson (Ga.) quarterback Travis Burgess is scheduled to return to campus this week. He informed 247Sports’ Tom Loy that he plans to arrive on Wednesday night for Thursday’s practice.
At 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds, Burgess is ranked as the No. 512 player overall, the No. 28 quarterback, and the No. 57 player from Georgia in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
“The relationship is fantastic,” Burgess said to Loy. “Having been up there a couple of times and getting a feel for the program, I really like them a lot, which is why they’re one of my top schools. Coach (Kent) Austin and I have developed a strong bond over the months, and I admire his track record with the players he’s coached. Knowing his experience in the NFL and college football gives me confidence in what it takes to reach the next level.”
Auburn’s recruitment strategy has been focused on building a strong quarterback pipeline. With the recent acquisition of Jackson Arnold through the transfer portal and the recruitment of five-star quarterback Deuce Knight in the 2025 class, securing Burgess for the 2026 class would further solidify the Tigers’ position in attracting top quarterback talent. Burgess’s potential addition would be another significant boost to Auburn’s 2026 recruiting class, which is already ranked highly nationally.
Burgess’s impressive stats from his junior season, including completing 60% of his passes for 2,255 yards and 23 touchdowns, along with 596 rushing yards and four touchdowns, have garnered attention from several top programs. However, Auburn remains the frontrunner, with Burgess set to make an official visit to the campus in May. This visit will be crucial for Auburn to reinforce its position and ensure that Burgess feels at home with the team and the community.
As Burgess weighs his options, his relationship with the Auburn staff continues to be a decisive factor. The combination of a strong team culture, excellent coaching, and a sense of belonging has Auburn well-positioned to secure his commitment. With several other schools, including Duke, Wisconsin, and Arizona State, also in the mix, Auburn’s ability to maintain a strong connection with Burgess will be pivotal in securing his signature.
