Although some players they were particularly interested in have signed with other teams, there are still some talented prospects available. One such player is Honor Huff, a transfer from Chattanooga, with whom the Tar Heels have been in communication since he entered the transfer portal.
Honor Huff, a 5-foot-10 guard from Brooklyn, New York, will attract a number of interested teams for his final year of college eligibility. After starting his career at VMI, he transferred to Chattanooga, where he excelled and became one of the top mid-major shooters in the nation.
In the past season, Huff was the Mocs’ leading scorer with an average of 15.2 points per game, helping his team finish first in the Southern Conference (SoCon). He played a significant role in their NIT championship run, scoring in double figures in four of the five tournament games.
However, there’s some hesitation among UNC basketball fans regarding mid-major transfers, as the competition level is quite different from that in the ACC. Fans have witnessed the struggles of Cade Tyson, who transferred from Belmont last offseason, and have seen others like Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce fail to adjust during their time with the program.
While not all mid-major transfers are bound to struggle, UNC fans have valid concerns.
Nonetheless, the UNC basketball program is thoroughly exploring all options, especially given their pressing need for a point guard. It’s essential for them to consider every possible candidate as they seek to address this crucial position ahead of the 2025-2026 season.
