Illinois Secures International Commitment from Former Ivisic Twins’ Team

Illinois coach Brad Underwood continues to strengthen his roster with European talent, adding another international prospect to his squad. On Monday night, the Illini secured a commitment from 6-foot-9 forward David Mirkovic, who plays for SC Derby in the Adriatic League—the same team where the Ivisic twins, Tomislav and Zvonimir, previously played.

Mirkovic, who averaged 8.8 points and 6.7 rebounds in just 23.6 minutes per game during the 2024-25 season, impressed with his performance. To put that into context, Zvonimir Ivisic never averaged more than 3.9 points and 2.7 rebounds in his two years at SC Derby, while Tomislav Ivisic posted 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in his final season there.

At just 19 years old, Mirkovic’s numbers are even more remarkable, especially considering his size—he weighs 250 pounds, making him the heaviest player on the current Illinois roster. This added physicality will be a welcome addition for the Illini, who at times struggled with physicality last season, aside from guard Kylan Boswell.

Underwood’s continued focus on European talent is evident, with the Illini not only tapping into SC Derby but also eyeing connections to other prominent clubs like FC Barcelona, the former team of Kasparas Jakucionis and current squad of target Dame Sarr.

As of now, Illinois’ 2025 recruiting class includes high school players Brandon Lee and Keaton Wagler, transfer Zvonimir Ivisic, and international prospect Mirkovic. However, Underwood and his staff aren’t done yet and are still looking to fill additional roster spots, whether through the transfer portal or more international signings.
