The NC State basketball staff wasted no time getting in contact with former Florida Atlantic forward Tre Carroll.
If any NC State basketball fans had reservations about new head coach Will Wade’s recruitment skills and his ability to navigate the hectic transfer portal, those concerns should now be alleviated.
It’s evident that Wade and his staff are actively monitoring prospective players, reaching out to a potential candidate just hours after he entered the portal this week.
On Monday afternoon, League Ready’s Sam Kayser reported that NC State was one of several programs to quickly connect with Florida Atlantic transfer Tre Carroll. This suggests that the junior forward may be a priority for Wade, but it’s still unclear if the interest is reciprocated.
Carroll, who has played all three of his college seasons with the Owls, enjoyed a breakout year after stepping into a more significant role, having previously been a reserve with limited minutes during his first two years.
In 34 games this season, including 14 starts for Florida Atlantic, the 6-foot-7, 233-pound player averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field.
In addition to NC State, other programs like George Washington, Miami, Providence, UNLV, USC, and Xavier have also reached out to Carroll early in his transfer recruitment.
Meanwhile, Will Wade and the Wolfpack coaching staff have focused on acquiring talented guards through the transfer portal. However, they appear to be expanding their search to include potential frontcourt players as they prepare for the upcoming season.
