Georgia State Running Back Transfers to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State has strengthened its backfield with a new addition.
On Tuesday, the Cowboys secured a commitment from Georgia State running back Freddie Brock, who entered the transfer portal, as reported by Pete Nakos of On3. Brock will be entering his sixth season of college football, aiming to cap off his career with a strong performance in Stillwater.
Brock had a solid 2023 season at Georgia State, leading the team in rushing with 151 carries for 819 yards and eight touchdowns. Additionally, he caught 21 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his versatility.
After spending three successful seasons at Maine, Brock transferred to Georgia State in 2023, where he needed some time to adjust to the FBS level. While his production was minimal during the regular season, he made a standout performance in the Idaho Potato Bowl, rushing for 276 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in the Panthers’ win, demonstrating his ability to perform at the highest level.
With Ollie Gordon no longer on the roster, the Cowboys are facing some questions at running back for the first time since 2022. Gordon, who won the Doak Walker Award and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2023, was also a Heisman candidate entering the 2024 season.
Replacing Gordon’s production will be a tough task, but adding a talented player like Brock to a backfield that already includes Rodney Fields Jr., Sesi Vailahi, and Kalib Hicks gives the Cowboys a chance to diversify their rushing attack.
Brock is one of several new faces expected to join the Cowboys in 2025, as the team has undergone significant changes following the departure of much of its 2024 talent. With new coordinators Doug Meacham and Todd Grantham at the helm, Oklahoma State has focused on bolstering its roster through the transfer portal.
While it’s uncertain whether these offseason moves will lead to a bounce-back season, additions like Brock should help the Cowboys as they aim to start a new bowl streak.
