Houston Adds Transfer Guard One Day After Title-Game Loss
One day after Houston’s defeat in the national championship game, head coach Kelvin Sampson quickly turned his attention to improving the team for next season.
Sampson wasted no time in reshaping his roster, securing a guard from the transfer portal.
Pop Isaacs, a 6-foot-2 junior guard who previously played at Texas Tech and Creighton, announced on Tuesday night that he will transfer to join the Cougars.
Isaacs’ season at Creighton was cut short due to hip surgery after he played just eight games. However, when healthy, he averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. In his final game for Creighton, Isaacs scored 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds, helping the Bluejays defeat Kansas.
The year prior, Isaacs played at Texas Tech, where he averaged 15.8 points per game.
Isaacs now joins a Houston team that already includes returning guards like Milos Uzan, Emanuel Sharp, and Terrance Arceneaux. His addition strengthens a Cougars lineup that many experts are excited about, with some even naming Houston their early preseason No. 1.
Isaacs is the second transfer acquisition for Sampson, following Kalifa Sakho, a 6-foot-8 forward from Sam Houston State, who will have one season of eligibility remaining.
