After leading North Carolina to the Final Four in 2022, RJ Davis and the Tar Heels never made it back, with Davis ultimately wrapping up his college career without a national title. His final game came in UNC’s first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Ole Miss. To add to the roster shakeup, starting guard Elliot Cadeau entered the transfer portal and committed to Michigan, leaving the Tar Heels with some holes to fill.
Despite those setbacks, head coach Hubert Davis and his staff got a boost this week. On Tuesday, junior guard Seth Trimble announced via Instagram that he’ll be returning to Chapel Hill for his senior season. Alongside a photoshopped image of himself in a North Carolina jersey, Trimble kept the message simple: “I’m back.”
Trimble and RJ Davis spent three seasons together at UNC, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice. Their deepest run came in 2024 when they advanced to the Sweet 16. After Trimble shared his decision, Davis showed support by commenting with a video of Trimble energizing the crowd — a fitting tribute to their shared journey.

Trimble had limited playing time as a freshman, averaging just 9.7 minutes per game. In his sophomore season, his role grew significantly, with his minutes increasing to 17.1 per game and averaging 5.2 points. While he primarily came off the bench during the ACC and NCAA tournaments, he did start 18 of his 34 games during the 2024–25 season. That year, he posted career-best numbers with 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. His standout performance came in a 92–90 win over Dayton, where he dropped 27 points and pulled down ten boards. With both RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau moving on, Trimble is now in position to potentially claim a full-time starting role next season.
