Virginia Tech Reportedly Targeting One of the Top Bigs in the Transfer Portal

Virginia Tech is staying active in the transfer portal as head coach Mike Young looks to reshape the Hokies’ roster for next season. After already landing a key commitment from four-star West Virginia transfer Amani Hansberry, the Hokies are now eyeing one of the most sought-after big men still available—Ante Brzovic from College of Charleston.

According to Sam Kayser of League Ready, Virginia Tech is among several programs showing strong interest in Brzovic, a skilled 6’10”, 225-pound center from Croatia. Brzovic has spent the last three seasons at Charleston, consistently improving his game. Over his college career, he has averaged 13.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, shooting an efficient 54% from the field and 32% from three. His steady progression and versatility make him a valuable asset for any program, and he’s expected to make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

While it’s unclear if Brzovic will ultimately choose Virginia Tech—especially with multiple high-profile programs pursuing him—the Hokies are certainly in the mix.

As for Hansberry, he’ll bring experience and physicality to Virginia Tech’s frontcourt. The former West Virginia and Illinois forward is coming off a solid season in the Big 12, where he posted 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in 31 appearances (23 starts). The 6’8″, 240-pound forward shot 43% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc. With his move to the ACC, he’s expected to play a significant role for the Hokies next season.

Hansberry is ranked No. 72 overall in the transfer portal by 247Sports and is considered a four-star transfer. Coming out of high school, he was a top-100 national prospect and the No. 1 recruit in Maryland.
