Jets Projected to Pull Off Major Draft Trade with Steelers
Could the New York Jets make a splash by trading down in the upcoming NFL Draft? One bold prediction suggests they might do just that — with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Holding the No. 7 overall pick, the Jets are faced with a crucial decision. With Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders expected to still be on the board, New York has multiple options: select Sanders if they’re sold on him, take another player, or trade the pick to a team eager to land the QB.
FanSided’s John Buhler recently predicted a major draft-day deal where the Jets trade the No. 7 pick — along with a 2026 fourth-rounder — to the Steelers in exchange for the No. 21 pick and Pittsburgh’s 2026 first-round selection.
“Pittsburgh would move up to grab Sanders by sending the Jets their 2026 first and the No. 21 pick,” Buhler explained. “To balance the value, they’d also get New York’s 2026 fourth-rounder. The key for Pittsburgh is jumping ahead of the Saints at No. 9, who could also be eyeing Sanders. The complication? The Jets may want Sanders too.”
Ultimately, it all hinges on the Jets’ interest in Sanders. If they’re planning to draft him, they’ll stay put. But if they’re not targeting him, trading down makes strategic sense.
By dropping to No. 21, New York could still land a quality prospect like wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and gain valuable draft capital with an extra first-rounder in 2026. While that may not give immediate help to Justin Fields, the long-term value could be well worth it.
