Former Pirates Outfielder Joshua Palacios Called Up by White Sox
PITTSBURGH — Joshua Palacios, once an outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, has returned to the big leagues—this time with the Chicago White Sox.
On April 10, the White Sox selected Palacios’ contract, officially adding him to their Major League roster.
A Brooklyn native, Palacios attended the High School of Telecommunication Arts and Technology, where he earned the title of 2013 New York City High School Player of the Year. Though initially drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 31st round in 2014, he opted to attend San Jacinto Junior College. There, he posted impressive numbers across two seasons before transferring to Auburn, where he hit .385 as a junior in 2016.
He entered pro ball when the Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft, signing him for $438,100. Palacios spent nearly five years in Toronto’s minor league system before making his MLB debut on April 9, 2021. However, he was soon sent back to Triple-A and ultimately designated for assignment in April 2022.
The Washington Nationals picked him up off waivers and gave him some big-league action before the Pirates selected him in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft. He worked his way through Double-A and Triple-A before appearing in 91 games for Pittsburgh in 2023, where he posted a .239/.279/.413 slash line with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.
In 2024, injuries limited his time with the Pirates to just 23 games, and he spent the majority of the season in Triple-A Indianapolis, slashing .224/.333/.343. The Pirates designated him for assignment on March 22, and after clearing waivers, he was sent to Indianapolis again. Palacios chose free agency on March 31 and signed with the White Sox just days later on April 3.
Now, he’s getting another shot at the majors with Chicago.
