Maryland Football: Projected Starter Terez Davis Enters Transfer Portal, Fans React
The Maryland Terrapins football program suffered a key loss over the weekend as offensive lineman Terez Davis, who was expected to be a starter this upcoming season, announced his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
While the spotlight has largely been on college basketball’s transfer portal in recent weeks, college football is beginning to see increased activity as well. Davis’ departure marks a significant blow for the Terps, especially given his promising trajectory.
In a statement shared on his Twitter/X account, Davis expressed gratitude to head coach Mike Locksley, the coaching staff, his teammates, and the Maryland community for their support throughout his time in the program.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank The University of Maryland, Coach Locks, my position/strength coaches, teammates, and the entire Maryland community for the opportunity to grow both on and off the field,” Davis wrote. “I’ve made lifelong friendships, memories, and learned valuable lessons from this leadership.”

He went on to explain that after much thought and prayer, he has decided to enter the transfer portal next week, calling it the best step for his future as a student-athlete and announcing that his recruitment is now open.
Davis made an impact as a true freshman last season, appearing in 10 games and earning two starts. He was widely projected to be a key piece of the offensive line this fall, making his departure especially disappointing for the Terrapin faithful, who quickly took to social media to express both surprise and support.
The move adds a new wrinkle to Maryland’s offseason and highlights the ongoing volatility of roster management in the modern college football era.
