Royals Could Target $50 Million All-Star from White Sox in Potential Blockbuster Deal

With the 2025 season underway, the Royals’ outfield has struggled offensively, and that could be a significant concern if the team is aiming for a deeper postseason run than they managed in 2024.
Whether Kansas City decides to invest heavily in an outfielder come July will likely hinge on their position in the standings. If the Royals are firmly in the playoff hunt, general manager J.J. Picollo may consider pulling off a high-impact trade.
Kansas City already has a formidable duo at the top of the order in Jonathan India and Bobby Witt Jr. Adding another potent bat could elevate them to dark-horse contender status.
One name that could come up is Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. – though his price tag might be steep.
Robert is earning $15 million this year, with team options for $20 million in each of the following two seasons, per Spotrac. The 27-year-old has been a constant in trade rumors thanks to his power, speed, and age.
He’s already been linked to big-spending teams like the Phillies and Mets, as noted by Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report. While Kansas City may seem like a long shot, they could become a more realistic destination if Robert’s performance dips and wealthier teams back off.
Although he’s gotten off to a slow start in 2025, Robert may be finding his rhythm. He hit a crucial two-run homer in a 3-2 win over the Red Sox on Saturday.
Currently, he’s slashing just .178/.269/.267—well below his career averages—but his upside is undeniable. In 2023, he posted a .224/.278/.379 line with 14 homers, 35 RBIs, and 23 steals in 100 games, and he boasts a Gold Glove (2020), a Silver Slugger (2023), and an All-Star nod (2023).
The Royals already made a statement this past offseason by trading for India, but if they’re in the thick of contention come July, don’t rule out a potential pursuit of Robert.
