Iowa lands four-star transfer Cam Manyawu from Drake. Learn more about the forward’s fit, stats, and impact on the Hawkeyes’ 2024–25 basketball season.

Earlier this month, the Iowa Hawkeyes received thrilling news with the addition of Cam Manyawu, a transfer from Drake. The forward will reunite with Ben McCulloum, his former coach at Drake. Manyawu was ranked as a four-star player in 247Sports’ transfer ratings.

Manyawu was one of the key leaders for Drake last season. Although he arrived with little fanfare after transferring from Wyoming, he quickly became a starter and played a significant role in helping Drake reach the Round of 32 in this year’s NCAA Tournament. He averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, boasting a strong offensive rating of 108.1. Notably, he was one of the top shot blockers in the conference and contributed a crucial seven points in 19 minutes during Drake’s victory over Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

With the significant turnover in Iowa’s roster, it’s uncertain how Manyawu will fit into the team right now. Iowa is on track to lose nearly all of its major contributors from last season due to graduation or transfers, making it challenging to gauge his role. In fact, it’s likely that the entire lineup used in the Big Ten Tournament will be gone.

In many respects, next year’s Iowa team may resemble last year’s Drake squad, just in different uniforms, so Manyawu is likely to start at the power forward or center positions, depending on matchups, and should see substantial playing time.

Ultimately, while it’s impossible to predict how Manyawu will perform for the Hawkeyes, both McCullom and fans should be excited about the potential he brings for next season.
