With many players from last year’s roster reaching the end of their eligibility before the 2025-26 season, the Auburn basketball coaching staff is concentrating on rebuilding the team after making their second Final Four appearance in six years.
The Tigers have already secured commitments from three incoming freshmen: forward Sebastian Williams-Adams, guard Simon Walker, and guard Kaden Magwood. Additionally, they have signed two former junior college players, guard Abdul Bashir and center Emeka Opurum.
Recently, former Texas Tech guard Kevin Overton became the third player to join Auburn through the transfer portal, following former UCF guard Keyshawn Hall and former Mississippi State forward/center KeyShawn Murphy. With Denver Jones and Miles Kelly leaving the program, Overton is an ideal candidate to help fill the void.
Last season, Overton averaged 7.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while coming off the bench for Texas Tech. He shot 42.2% from the field, 33.1% from beyond the arc, and 77.9% from the free-throw line. Known for his strong defensive skills with the Red Raiders, he will be essential in replacing Denver Jones.
Overton is entering his third school in as many years; he began at Drake before transferring to Texas Tech. He still has two years of eligibility left.
The Auburn basketball team is poised for a major overhaul for the 2025-26 season, especially with Chad Baker-Mazara entering the transfer portal. The Tigers will lose Jones, Kelly, Chris Moore, Dylan Cardwell, Johni Broome, Chaney Johnson, and Ja’Heim Hudson due to eligibility limits. Jahki Howard has also entered the transfer portal, while the team hopes to retain Tahaad Pettiford, who has declared for the NBA Draft.
