Kentucky Freshman Jasper Johnson Snubbed by Not Making List
There’s no excuse for Jasper Johnson being left off this list.
This season, the Kentucky Wildcats are poised to have a major talent coming off the bench in five-star guard Jasper Johnson. The Kentucky native, who recently played for Overtime Elite (OTE) in Atlanta, put up impressive numbers and is now set to return home and join the Wildcats.
Despite being a five-star recruit, Johnson was surprisingly not selected as a McDonald’s All-American, a snub that shocked Big Blue Nation. Known for his elite shooting ability, Johnson is expected to thrive in Mark Pope’s system.
Paul Biancardi of ESPN recently released a list ranking the top shot makers in the 2025 recruiting class, and once again, Johnson’s name was absent. This is particularly surprising given Johnson’s reputation as one of the best pure shooters in this class, in addition to being a skilled shot creator.
Both this list and his McDonald’s All-American omission signal that Johnson is one of the most underrated players of this class. Standing at 6’4″, Johnson has lottery-pick potential and could easily average double-digit points for Kentucky this season.
While he may come off the bench if Kentucky adds another player through the portal or international recruitment, Johnson is likely to lead the second unit in scoring.
With his Kentucky roots, Johnson is bound to become a fan favorite in Lexington, and his shooting ability will make him a key contributor even in his first year.
The college basketball world may be sleeping on Jasper Johnson now, but soon enough, they’ll be paying attention.
