The upcoming spring transfer portal period is anticipated to be extremely hectic, and this trend has reached the FCS level as well.

On Wednesday, Eastern Washington safety Derek Ganter Jr. officially entered the NCAA transfer portal. The news was initially reported by On3 Sports earlier this week and was later confirmed by Ganter himself.

Standing 6 feet tall and weighing 188 pounds, Ganter has three years of eligibility left. He has played two seasons with the Eagles, including a redshirt year in 2023 as a true freshman.

In 2024, Ganter had a standout season, earning FCS Freshman All-American honors and being named a second-team All-Big Sky selection after starting eight games for Eastern Washington. He led the team with 95 total tackles and also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and four pass breakups.

During his two seasons at Eastern Washington, Ganter recorded a total of 107 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, six pass breakups, and one forced fumble.
