Texas Tech Football program Hit with Sensational Update

An intriguing offensive line transfer from the FCS ranks is reportedly coming to Lubbock this weekend to visit the Texas Tech football program.

The Texas Tech football team has not yet finalized its 2025 roster. Even though they have already signed a record-breaking transfer class that leads the nation, head coach Joey McGuire is still seeking to enhance his program’s talent.

A new player to keep an eye on is the impressive offensive lineman Tyrell Green. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 330 pounds, he played last season at Eastern Kentucky in the FCS. There, he was recognized as an FCS Freshman All-America as a right guard. It seems he is now interested in making the jump to the FBS level, with Texas Tech potentially being a destination.

As reported by 247Sports, Green is a 3-star transfer and currently ranks as the No. 38 interior offensive lineman in the portal.

Coming from Toledo, Ohio, he was a two-star prospect in the high school class of 2024. However, his impressive size allowed him to excel in the FCS right from the start.

It’s noteworthy that the Red Raiders are looking to strengthen their offensive line, especially since three backup offensive linemen have entered the portal this week.

Texas Tech has already brought in three transfer offensive linemen this offseason, including Hunter Zambrano, another standout from the FCS last fall. He is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound interior lineman who transferred from Illinois State when the early portal window opened in December.

While Zambrano will be a senior this fall, Green is just beginning his college football journey. He could potentially redshirt in 2025 since he didn’t sit out last season.

Texas Tech would greatly benefit from adding a player of Green’s size and proven performance in the FCS. He could contribute immediately if he is ready to compete against Big 12 teams, or he could serve as a valuable asset for the future due to his youth. In any case, securing a lineman of his caliber during the spring portal window would be a savvy decision for McGuire and his coaching staff.
