Maryland Football Lands Key Commitment from Standout DT in Transfer Portal
This comes at a crucial time for the Terrapins!
While Maryland football has seen a number of players depart through the transfer portal, they’ve struggled to replace them—until Saturday. Ohio University defensive tackle Cam Rice announced his decision to transfer to Maryland.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 290 pounds, Rice had a strong season last year, recording 30 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks over 12 games at Ohio. He began his college career at West Virginia but transferred after one season to Division II West Liberty University.

During his two seasons at West Liberty, Rice emerged as a dominant force, registering 89 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, two interceptions, and even two defensive touchdowns. Originally recruited as a linebacker out of high school, Rice made a successful transition to the defensive line.
Securing Rice’s commitment is especially important for Maryland following the loss of Lavon Johnson, who entered the portal and later signed with Texas.
