Michigan Football Signs Running Back from Transfer Portal
Michigan football has officially added a new running back to its roster, filling a key spot in the wake of Benjamin Hall’s departure.
After losing Hall, who was expected to be the RB3 behind Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes, the Wolverines quickly secured a commitment from UMass running back CJ Hester following their spring game on Saturday.
The team confirmed the signing via their official X (Twitter) account.

Hester, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, completed his sophomore season at UMass, rushing for 529 yards and four touchdowns. One of his standout performances came against SEC powerhouse Georgia, where he rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Hester’s college journey began at Western Michigan, where he played his freshman year. Over seven games, he totaled 124 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.
While adding Hester provides depth following the loss of Hall and Cole Cabana, his playing time isn’t guaranteed. Michigan also returns sophomore Micah Ka’apana, who impressed during the spring game, and has signed new recruits Jasper Parker and Donovan Johnson for the 2025 class. The running back position will be one to watch heading into the fall.
