Oregon’s special teams took a blow on Friday as backup punter Luke Dunne officially entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer. Dunne, who spent the past two seasons with the Ducks, appeared in 11 of Oregon’s 14 games during the 2024 season. While primarily backing up starter Ross James, he still managed to log nine punts for 384 total yards, averaging 42.7 yards per attempt. Five of those punts landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, including a season-best 51-yarder against Purdue on October 18.
Dunne’s most notable performance came in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Rose Bowl against Ohio State, where he punted four times with an average of 42.75 yards. In addition to his punting duties, he served as a holder on special teams and totaled 42 snaps in 2024. He joins a wave of players entering the spring transfer portal as programs continue to shift rosters ahead of the 2025 season.
Oregon fans will get their first glimpse of the team’s updated depth chart during the 2025 Spring Game on Saturday, April 26, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. PST at Autzen Stadium.
