Trade Proposal Sends Dangerous Pass Rusher to the Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are in need of a pass rusher, and a proposed trade with the Dallas Cowboys could bring them a key player to fill that role.
Last season, the Panthers struggled to pressure the quarterback, finishing with just 32 sacks, one of the lowest totals in the league.
While the team has made some moves to address this issue, signing free agents like Tershawn Wharton and Pat Jones, the Panthers still need to bolster their defensive front even further.
Though Carolina is expected to focus on this need in the upcoming NFL Draft, there may also be potential trade opportunities that could help them out.
Sterling Xie of Pro Football Network has suggested Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Dante Fowler as a possible trade target for the Panthers.
“With young edge rushers Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland behind him, Fowler could return to a designated pass rusher role,” Xie explained. “If the Cowboys develop their younger pass rushers and potentially add to the position in the draft, Fowler might become a tradeable asset.”
Fowler, now in his second stint with the Cowboys, posted 39 tackles and 10.5 sacks with the Washington Commanders in 2024, marking his second career season with double-digit sacks (his first came with the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, when he had 11.5 sacks).
At 30 years old, Fowler has been a reliable pass rusher throughout his career, which began with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 and has included stops with five different teams.
While Fowler might not be the most exciting addition, there’s no doubt that his ability to disrupt opposing offenses would be a major boost for the Panthers’ defensive line.
