Texans’ Bold Trade Proposal Brings Dynamic Playmaker for C.J. Stroud
The Houston Texans are expected to make a big move to bring an exciting weapon to quarterback C.J. Stroud’s arsenal.
After overhauling their offense this offseason, the Texans still have significant work to do. While the team has been focusing on fixing issues along the offensive line, they also need to add more playmakers for Stroud, especially after the loss of Stefon Diggs and with Tank Dell likely sidelined for the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury.
Due to financial constraints, Houston wasn’t able to make any splashy signings in free agency, only acquiring Christian Kirk in a low-risk trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Kirk could prove to be a valuable addition, the Texans still need more firepower, and they’re likely to address that need through the NFL Draft.
Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame predicts that the Texans will get aggressive and swing a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire the 18th overall pick. According to Verderame, Houston would send picks No. 25 and 79 to Seattle in exchange for the coveted spot.
With the 18th pick, Verderame envisions the Texans selecting Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden.
“The Texans move up to provide Nico Collins with some help on the opposite side,” Verderame wrote. “Houston needs to rebuild its receiving corps after losing Diggs to free agency and with Tank Dell’s potential season-ending knee injury. A third-round pick is the price of doing business, but the Texans land a potential star to pair with Collins.”
Golden, who ran a blazing 4.29 in the 40-yard dash, is considered by some as the most complete wide receiver prospect in this year’s class after Travis Hunter. In 2024, the 21-year-old totaled 58 receptions for 987 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 17 yards per catch. He would provide a dynamic addition to a receiving corps already featuring the emerging Collins, one of the most electrifying wideouts in the league.
